What is this product used for

Advantage is a once a month topical flea treatment for cats and kittens over 8 weeks or older and dogs and puppies 7 weeks or older. This product kills 98-100% of the fleas on cats and dogs within 12 hours.

Availability

Advantage, a once a month topical flea treatment, is a non-prescription (OTC) product.

How this product should be used

Advantage is available in applicators for cats 1-9 lbs and cats 10 lbs and over. Advantage is available in applicators for dogs 1-10 lbs, 11-20 lbs, 21-55 lbs and 55 lbs and over. To apply, place the applicator tip through the animal’s hair to the skin level. On cats, apply to skin on neck at the base of the skull. For dogs up to 20 lbs, apply to skin on back between the shoulder blades. For dogs 21 lbs or over apply the contents of one tube to 3 or 4 spots along the skin on back from the shoulder to the tail. Do not get this product in the pet’s eyes or mouth.

What are the side effects

Individual sensitivities, while rare, may occur after using any pesticide product for pets. If signs persist, or become more severe, consult a veterinarian immediately.

What special precautions are there

Advantage is for external use on dogs 7 weeks or older and cats 8 weeks or older. Consult a veterinarian before using on medicated animals, animals using this product with other pesticides, and debilitated, aged, pregnant or nursing animals. This product causes eye irritation in humans and is harmful if swallowed. Avoid contact with skin. Call poison control center if swallowed. If on skin, wash with plenty of soap and water. If in eyes, flush with plenty of water.

In the event of overdose

Contact your veterinarian or veterinary emergency room.

How should I store this product

Store this product in a cool dry place. Do not store in the refrigerator. Do not reuse empty container. To dispose wrap original container in several layers of newspaper and discard in trash. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

It sounded good and said it protected against a wider range of insects for half the cost. BIG MISTAKE. The tube had twice as much liquid in it and my cat's head was greasy for a month. Also, did not work at all! I learned my lesson, I'm sticking with Advantage. It's worth it! Advantage is the BEST!

Treated them at night the next morning there were no living fleas left! I have used Advantage before on my older cats and loved it. I have never saw such an infestation and quick cure. Raid has one that works great. As for the comment about the reaction to the flea drops, sounds like something else is wrong. Ask your vet.

The first time I encountered a flea problem that I couldn't lick with flea shampoo, my vet recommended Advantage. My dog was a small terrier, who loved to sleep under the covers. The next morning, I had a bed full of dead fleas. You could nearly see them fall off her. I have used it ever since, with excellent results. My current dog is a 6 lb rat terrier and the vet told me to use the feline Advantage, in the Orange package, so if the cats groomed the dog, it wouldn't hurt them. All the cats and the dog get treated when necessary. It works great.

I am not sure if it burned him or what but the spot where the medication was applied scabbed up for week and it definitely didn't kill the fleas. Now that the spot has healed my cat has a raised scar, also the hair has yet to grow back.

My cats don't smell like "almonds" after, as one reviewer said....there is a insecticide smell for a day on the applied area, but my vet said it was non-toxic. It just drives my one cat nuts because he can't lick it, but after a day the spot is not wet and the smell is just about gone.

I bought Advantage from a non profit place, and it worked wonders! I have used it every six weeks from that time, and I have not since seen a flea. It took about four days for the cats to be 100% flea free, but that's nothing, when you know what it's like to get attacked every night. Highly recommend it!!

I like Advantage best. It is easy to apply, (one spot, no line down the back) and absorbs quickly. It will leave you cats skin smelling like almonds as it spreads through the skin but other than that all you'll notice is no fleas. It's a real pain to apply to long or medium haired cats even if you part the hair first. Use the back of the neck near where the collar goes so they can't wipe or lick it, so stay below between the ears since they can wipe the top of their heads easily, but avoid the since it will take hours to fully absorb and spread. The hair tends to not be as long above the collar so start there.
